Running 2.0: a Dutch Experiment

Not one week after Nike showed the world that sports 2.0 is a mass product (Nike Human Race with 500.000 contestants), five sports 2.0 enthusiasts in the Netherlands clearly raised the sports 2.0 bar. They participated in a 10K run whilst live broadcasting their whereabouts and live video streaming. All this with only a modern GPS & video enabled mobile handset and a very nice mash up site with videogadgets and google maps.

Thank you for your good feedback and further validation that our strategy and improvements underway are spot on. We already working on a redesign to improve the useability so we are definitely aware of that. We are also working to align ourselves with some institutions and have had positive discussions with US Soccer, MLS and CONCACAF already. Currently we are working on a joint program with the English FA regarding a Distance learning Coaching C license for the Cayman Islands. If this works well then CONCACAF has interest expanding it. I like the Sport 3D concept. Do you know anyone there, I would be curious what the cost is to license it for my website but that might not fit their business model.

I hope to continue the discussion about Sport 2.0.
Cheers

Hi Gijsbregt,
I liked your Sport and Internet slide presentation. My belief is that you can have a succesful niche sports social network as long as you can provide some value to the member. There are many fan based sites that compete with each other and few have any real differentiator from the other. At my company, we have developed a beta website, Soccerinteractive.com that is focused on coach and parent education via the web. Now we will begin to use the power of the community to enhance the learning experience. While members can share ideas and ask questions on coaching they can also share their passion for the "Beautiful game". However most sports communities are just that, communities but we try to add value because we can help you to become a better coach or soccer parent.

Once we have built up the community of influencers (coaches and parents), we will then be ready to go after the largest group of soccer participants, the players. Again offering the opportunity to share in your passion but offering tools to also make you a better soccer player. This process only works though if you have focused on providing the educational tools that really can help to educate and empower both the grass roots coach and the experienced "professional" youth and college coach. We have developed tools such as our Exercise Planner and Interactive Chalkboard that empower a coach and provide a real time interactive capability into the learning process. Once we add our library tool, the coach will truely be empowered to search and create their own custom practices sessions all from within the library.

If done correctly, the community will enhance the learning process and the educational content will enhance the community.

I would be interested in your thoughts on this.
Cheers
Tim

In Europe all sports fanatics are gearing up for Euro2008. Source publishing is taking over here as well. An example is a website of the Dutch Soccer Association fully focused on the Dutch Soccer Team (called "Orange"). Brightguys is doing the online marketing and had the gadget below built.
